Goodbye 2016

Yo!

We always like writing these little retrospects. The years pass by so quickly, but this year seemed to pass particularly fast. Not sure why.

We didn’t play thát many gigs: only 15. In our defence: they were divided over 7 different countries (NL, DK, NO, PT, FR, UK, BE) and all of them were very special. Like the gig we did at the last night of the CinéPalace in Kortrijk. It was such a pitty to see that Wendy and Wim were forced to call it quits (see video below). Or our Roadburn gig, which was basically a dream come true and even resulted in a ‘Live at Roadburn‘cassette! Or that time we played at the beach in Ramsgate as a part of the ContraPop Festival. Or that we finally played at Café Oto in London together with Sten Ove Toft. And we haven’t even spoke about the gigs we did with Zeus, Daikiri, Älforjs, Author & Punisher, Consumer Electronics and Yes Deer.
The most intense gig, however, was our Incubate gig with Sten Ove Toft. We know, we’ve played Incubate many many times, but it just felt very special. Thanks Vince for giving us the chance to do this once more!

We didn’t release thát many albums either.
Only 1 full length album, a collaborative album with Drvg Cvltvre, that even got a review at The Needle Drop! One split 7″ with the amazing UK noise-heads Sly And The Family Drone and one live album (LIVE AT ROADBURN!!).
We also contributed 4 exclusive tracks for 3 different compilations.
Two compilations were made to generate money and / or attention for a good cause. First one was a track for a compilation tape released by our friend Richard and his Tartarus Records cassette label. His compilation tape Forever Out Of Control was a protest to the decision of the Noorderzon Festival management to shut down Harma Heikens’ exhibition of sculptures after people felt offended by one of the pieces being displayed.
The second compilation track was made to generate money for the American Civil Liberties Union after the election of Trump. We thank Verses Records to put together such a cool compilation.
We also contributed two one-minute tracks for the BRINK compilation that was put together by Jack Chuter. Make sure you download the entire thing as many many great artists and bands participated in the project.
We even did a remix for Frank Rosaly’s Malo album that was released by Utech Records.

But don’t think it stops there. Otto has been working hard to write and record new material for his other bands MNHM and Möthra. René released an album with his trio Dikeman//Serries//Aquarius, he released his solo album ‘Blight’ and he finished an album with his new band Celestial Bodies. 2017 will be noisy!

So we’ve been quite busy and the future is looking bright: we’ve written and recorded several new albums. As a duo but also collaborative efforts with Colin Webster, Sly And The Family Drone and Maxime Petit. We’ve got gigs lined up for Paradiso Amsterdam as well as London and Manchester.

Oh, and to end 2016 in style: here’s a surprise release called ‘Dolphin‘. Download it for free if you like.

See you in the near future in a basement near you.

Cheers and happy 2017,
Otto & René
